The Southbaltic Cleantech Network

The South Baltic Cleantech Network was established in 2016 within the framework of the project “Cleantech International”. It is a network of Cleantech SME and their cooperation partners and supports its members with activities on the international (European and even global) market via the following tools and services:

  • Transfer of knowledge and best practices via different exchange formats
  • Efficient provision of market information via our market research service
  • Matchmaking for international cooperations via regular Cleantech Talks

At the time being, the following four sectors are in the focus of the networking activities

  • Green mobility solutions
  • Green waste and waste water processing (new approaches and technologies related to energy production from waste)
  • Green house-building/restauration technologies
  • Renewable energy technologies

What is Cleantech in the understanding
of the South Baltic Cleantech Network?

In the understanding of the network, Cleantech refers to all processes, products and services that improve operational performance, productivity, or eff iciency while reducing costs, inputs, energy consumption, waste, or environmental pollution through significant energy eff iciency improvements, the sustainable use of resources, or environmental protection activities. Cleantech must also generate an economic benefit, be competitive and innovative. Cleantech is a more market-orientated concept than environmental technologies.

Or, to say it differently:
CleanTech is the overall technical understanding of being environmental friendly, minimizing carbon footprint in production, products, services, consume and behaviour, and being societal accepted, by fair means. It is either for free nor free of confl icts. It demands a balance of economy, ecology and public welfare. Assumed individual interests do not represent societal interests nor societal objectives!

The challenge is to integrate Cleantech into daily life and action, this is the step forward from on-Top or End-of-Pipe strategies in the 80`s and 90`s. Economic growth nowadays means growing eff iciency, resource management and participation, not growing consume and shareholder rvalue. It is necessary to fill the term with action and goals. And it is necessary to bring unwieldy terms into round ears. A challenge for policy makers and scientists to address non-professionals. Being generation-friendly means, not to inherit the earth from the grandparents but to loan it from the grandchildren.
