How to „clean" the place for SME‘s in green and blue growth fields of Lithuania?

Content

The State of Lithuania has 90 km shore length, majority of which is occupied by natural protected areas. Maritime business related activities are concentrated in Klaipeda harbour and offshore oil terminal in Butinge. It‘s no secret, that majority of actors in Klaipeda harbour are large companies, which activities still concentrated in fields, which can‘t be named as green and blue. Specialised oil terminal SC Klaipedos nafta, bulk terminal BEGA, ship building company „Baltija“, bulk load company KLASCO covers biggest part of Klaipeda port, which quays length is about 12 km. Seeking to implement South Baltic programme project CleanTech International on increasing opportunities of SME’s to act in green and blue growth fields is necessary to create some institutional tools for share coast line and on-shore and off-shore areas between old and new actors.

It was remembered, that JSC Eksponente was prepared the Lithuanian maritime development programme and Lithuanian maritime cluster concepts in 2000 year. European Integrated maritime policy was declared in 2006 and blue growth strategy – in 2011. The Lithuanian Maritime council was provided for permanent share of limited maritime sources. However only in 2017 we returned to this idea. On initiative of Strategic Self-Management Institute together with members of Parliament of Republic of Lithuania and members of leading party of greens and agrarians the meeting on establishing of Lithuanian Maritime council was arranged at 20th of March 2017 in Klaipeda. Participating leaders of maritime activities (picture) agreed on planning and seeking to establish Lithuanian Maritime council, Development service and Maritime administration in Klaipeda. This should grant legislative entering of new SME’s in maritime activities of Lithuania.
