Suez develops the worldwide unique facility for the recycling of solar modules

Since September 2018, Suez has been operating a plant in Knittlingen that specializes in the recycling of silicon-based solar modules. In addition to silicon, the modules consist of glass, aluminum, copper, precious metals and a number of polymers. So far in the recycling process, only glass, aluminum from the frame and copper in the cables from the old modules could be recycled. The new, globally unique system is designed to recover more than 90 percent of all materials contained. In the new recycling process, mechanical, thermal and electrochemical procedures are combined that up to 50,000 old modules each year can be recycled highly efficient and valuable raw materials are returned to the material cycle.
