The Economics and Science Center Brazil - Germany (WWZ - BD) was founded on June 5th, 2000 under the patronage of the former Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Roberto Abdenur, and in the presence of the Parliamentary Speaker of the State of Brandenburg, Herbert Knoblich, as well as more than 100 representatives from the area of politics and economy.


The first president of the WWZ - BD was Mr. Joerg Sommerlath, employee of the Brazilian Embassy and brother of the Swedish Queen Silvia. The current president of the association is Mrs. Jutta Blumenau-Niesel, great-granddaughter of Blumenau's founder in Santa Catarina, president of the Blumenau-Gesellschaft e. V. and member of the board of the German-Brazilian Society. Laywer Hans-Dieter Beuthan is head of management since the beginning of the WWZ - BD.


The WWZ - BD was founded in cooperation between Brazilians and Germans to promote and support the diverse relations between the Federative Republic of Brazil and the Federal Republic of Germany. The association promotes and supports German-Brazilian relations, especially in business, science and research, vocational training, environmental protection and cultural exchange.


Seat of the WWZ - BD is Berlin. In addition, the association is represented by an office in Pomerode (Santa Catarina). Close contacts exist with partners in São Paulo (São Paulo), Porto Alegre (Rio Grande do Sul), Florianópolis (Santa Catarina) and other states.
